So was the discussion at tonight’s school committee workshop with several Portland area legislators, Portland officials, South Portland City Manager and Superintendent and a few others. The meeting was essentially to update the legislators on the situation with Greater Portland area schools and how a “curtailment”* would be devastating to the schools.
* State Rep Anne Haskell noted that curtailment is an English word. But used in Government means something different. I thought all of the words being used tonight were English words.
I am going to do a running commentary on the remarks and questions of the meeting. Everyone at the meeting was given a bound copy of information on the Portland schools with divider separating most of the pages. I asked the Asst Super for a copy of the packet and she commented that there may not be enough. I noted my asking was not a question, but that I expected her to find me a copy. There were extra copies on the table, but I continually have to deal with this attitude of staff of not seeing the need to provide all meeting attendees with the materials that are provided to participants.
