Deputy Police Chief Jason Moen said undercover officers targeted wooded areas off Whitman Spring Road and at a causeway rest area along Route 4. The operation began in late August following complaints about men propositioning strangers or engaging in sexual activity in public view.

Maine police nab a dozen men in Auburn sex-sting operation

If these were guys tring to pick up hookers, then I'm glad the police cracked down on that disgusting activity.

However, based on the description, it occurred to me that this might be a gay cruising site.

In which case - shame on the Auburn Police Department! Don't they have any cultural sensitivity?

Moderator's note: Come on, Tom. You know that Scott wants to keep this a family-friendly site. The photo -- which was not even part of the article -- has been deleted. -- MA

It's just the way they are. They were BORN that way.

Do we really have to be treated to such garbage on this "family" site that frowns on nasty words with vowels replaced with asterisks?

Joe, are you saying gay culture is "garbage"?

I can't believe what a parochial bigot you are.

As far as “being exposed to this,” anyone who is in town during the Gay Pride Parade, or stops at a highway rest stop, is exposed to it plenty.

Keep your puritan values to yourself, and don’t try to impose them on the rest of us.

What's next, burning copies of "Blueboy"?

Thank God that in a generation or two the ignorance you display will be only a shameful memory of the past.

I don't recall ever seeing this in the LSJ...Bob Stone - was it?

Mr Reed, I believe Tom is just trying to expose the nasty underworld of homosexuality. And yes, if not in the LSJ, it has been in other papers. And, in the streets!!

It seems like protests in front of the police department are justified. And the gay lobby in Maine should look up whoever supports the police, and post all of their names and addresses on the internet, in the name of "public disclosure".

Wow, have times changed - or maybe just genders. Back in the 50's and 60's the Spring Road was one of Auburn's prime hetrosexual make out spots!! I guess, in slightly different circumstances, it still is.

If the Police bust hookers and straights doing the same thing, and I suspect they do, then there should be no problem. You don't have to stay in the closet, just keep it behind closed doors.

Forget 'cultural sensitivity'!!!

I'd a busted them on 'wardrobe malfunction' and an 'afront to fashion sensitivity'!

Who dresses these nuts?

Are they Greek fishermen, valet parking attendants or cowboys?
Please, for the luv o' pete put black bars across their eyes/faces so no one identifies these fashion disasters!!!

Two bow ties each... reminds me of "...and one for my little friend."

One can't help but wonder what sordid sundries are in the bag carried by the goon on the right.

That would make a great bumper sticker.

I figured they were just being "green" and picking cans up off the street.

Who are you guys to force your "behind closed doors" morality on the gay community? They have rights. Bigots.

Chris, let me get this straight. (no pun intended) You think it is OK for homosexuals to have sex in a family area. An area where people go to relax, have family picnics, and nature walks. After lunch, the parents can send the children off to play a game of go find the bio-hazard. I take it you would have no problem with your young child bringing back a used condom.

The world is full of vulgar, distasteful things. I still see no valid reason to post them on AMG. Just because they're also posted in a local newspaper means nothing.

BTW - the photo isn't posted on the page to which Tom linked in his first post. Neither is it posted on the LSJ home page, nor on this one with the article on the arrests:

The photo in the first post was from a typical "gay pride parade."

Would it be of more local interest if I selected a photo from a Maine gay pride parade?

OK:

Moderator's Note: I have deleted the photograph, and it won't take much to figure out why. Please don't do that again, Tom. -- MA

Notice the little girl on the left of the frame whose parents apparently thought it would be educational to expose her to "cultural diversity."

Based on the vociferious and closed-minded objections, I can only conclude that this place is full of homophobes that would rather not ask, nor be told.

Tom - you are way out of line with these photos, and what's worse, I think you know that. AMG has absolutely *zero* to do with Maine Pride parades, their organization, or their participants.

Please delete the photos, and please refrain from posting others of this sort.

BTW - I would ask the same thing if the pictures were of women, from one of the local strip clubs.

"Crass" has no specific gender - and it has no place on this forum.

Thank you.

Naran, this last picture was merely a typical scene on a Maine street in Portland at a gay pride parade.

I suppose you'll be burning Korans next.

Tom C -

I've been through this before with other posters. AMG is not the place for posting pics of the underbelly of gay extremes. I'm very serious about this. Here's a place where you can start your own blog free: http://www.typepad.com/?gclid=CIDNpdXz_aMCFUHt7Qodhho2IQ I. If you're looking for a place for such pics - there you go. I don't want them on AMG. End of story.

Thank you.

A LEO friend of mine used to do one of these ops here in Southern Maine. They'd only ramp up after multiple complaints from an area. Their line as they were writing the guy up: "Why don't you just get a room next time? Really, you can."

Sexual politics is only aroused by those on the Left like coose. And in exposing his bigotry, coose reminds me of this chestnut, "It is not bigotry to be certain we are right; but it is bigotry to be unable to imagine how we might possibly have gone wrong." -GKC

In the 1990s, the Brunswick Police busted similar activity in a local park. One of the guys busted was a prominent Bowdoin professor. The local liberal rag, the Times Record, reported the names of those arrested. The paper was flooded with letters by people disgusted that the paper printed the name of the person arrested. Of course, the paper published the names of people arrested every day, they are just not usually Bowdoin professors.

Press Herald made sure that the names were "outed" in today's paper. So much for privacy

5-10 years before enough bigots die off and replaced by young voters who don't get all aroused by sexual politics.

Now that's funny. It seems to be all they are obsessed with. They are unable to move beyond it and focus on any other issue.

Unless of course you mean Libby Mitchell, who as Senate President never handed over the gavel to speak about education funding, or protecting children, or smoking, or the $1 billion budget shortfall, or the rampant unemployment, or DIRIGO health, or teachers, seniors or veterans. No, the only one issue that mattered enough to Libby Mitchell for her to speak on was gay marriage and her disdain for the beliefs of Christians.

I guess that's a fine definition of a bigot who gets all aroused by sexual politics.
