Been driving a company vehicle up to last summer. With that, I seem to be to be completely out of the loop as to charges involved in taking off the snows and then mounting and balancing the summers. I was charged 15.00 a tire !! These are tires that I purchased last fall, from the same garage where I purchased them. Am I lost in the eighties?? Just seems $60.00 is alot>

That sounds about right...It is why I bought rims for the studded snowtires for my wifes Elantra at VIP for an extra 30 bucks a piece...I can now do it myself or pay 20 bucks to have it done...Doesn't take long for them to pay for themselves..ONE year...LOL...

I also get charged about $15 a tire to change them over, because mine are not on rims. There are places that will make deals, however, like you can offer to buy your snows from them if they'll do the changeovers for free.

With workers' comp rates zooming out of control, proposed increases in annual reporting fees of hundreds of dollars, proposed mandatory sick leave and large increases in property taxes due to education cutbacks - all thanks to Augusta - $15 will seem like a deal in a year or two.

The tire guy doesn't get to keep the whole $15.

Like Chairman points out - a lot of that goes to Augusta in the form of fees and unemployment tax.

Bought studded snows for the wife's car at VIP along with rims ($45 each) and the road hazard ($9/tire). Road hazard includes free roation twice a year. They will do the snow tire changeover for free and count it as a rotation. In 2 years I'm $16 ahead, and from here on out it's money in my pocket every time I have them changed.

Cost me $80 in Lewiston, but well worth every penny given its the wife's car.
