"Occupy Wall Street" Updates

So much for the non violent protests.

"they joined arms and they charged the police. They attacked the police. They wanted to get into Wall Street, they wanted to occupy Wall Street,” Kelly told reporters.

There was at least one arrest for assaulting a police officer and police said one protester even knocked an officer off his scooter"

That's why cops should ride

That's why cops should ride horses in NY City, it's organic, meaning the protestors will have to dodge "the horses presents" and what does it take for NY finest to be put on scooter duty. "you are on scooter duty today Murphy". "damn you know how easy it is to get knocked off that contraption" yes but it's part of homeland securities green effort. what can you say, unions!

According to the article

According to the article linked in the first post, the owners of the park where the protesters are staying want them out. Unsanitary conditions and needed repairs are leading the owners to look for a way to evict them.

“... protests... becoming intolerable to the people who live and work in the.... area. We are not billionaires, we did not sign the bailouts....,” said a lawyer and mother of a 2-year-old ....“I ...had ... sympathy for the protestors, but that is completely gone as a result of the constant marches, late-night noise and interruptions to my family’s daily life.”

One resident suggested... they move to Greenwich, Conn., where many who work on Wall Street live.

There is a pic but it seemed better not to post it here. Check out the link, there are lots of photographs, including the guy and the cop car. It must be a pretty good mess to see and smell.

I am thoroughly disgusted that American taxpayers subsidized Wall St losses, so have a bit of sympathy with these folks. But glad I am not there.

NYPD costs rise as Wall Street protests continue

By MEGHAN BARR

(AP)

....with no end in sight, the cost of constant police surveillance will continue to rise at a time when Mayor Michael Bloomberg has ordered citywide budget cuts.

The New York Police Department already has spent $1.9 million, mostly in overtime pay, to patrol the area near Zuccotti Park, where hundreds of protesters have camped out for several weeks. Though cold weather is on the way in, protesters don't plan on leaving anytime soon. ....

Actually, I can tell you from experience that horses make excellent crowd control tools.

Published October 11, 2011

Former Pennsylvania Gov. Ed Rendell, a Democrat, isn’t likely to join the Occupy Wall Street movement any time soon.

...snip
“.... You’ve made your point, you’ve gotten about all the publicity you’re going to get.”

“Now get on with your lives and if you really care about this stuff, organize at the ballot box,” he said. “You know, we can scream about the Tea Party, but the Tea Party folks understood how to make change in 2010. They got out and voted.”

From Apollo's link, above:

“There’s a lot of stuff we wouldn’t have to clean up if the city provided basic human rights, like a Port-A-Potty,” said demonstrator...“If you would’ve given us a Port-A-Potty 30 days ago, we would’ve maintained it ourselves.”

Are the protesters willing to pay the cost for the amenities they seek? They're already costing the city millions in clean-up and police overtime funding.

Okay, this is hilarious:

Some protesters who found themselves caught in rain squalls this morning took shelter in a Bank of America ATM kiosk to stay dry.

It's pretty hard to put that

It's pretty hard to put that many people in a small space, and not expect some cleanliness problems. We don't know what efforts the protesters have made on keeping the space tidy.

it is ridiculous, however, for them to expect endless free services from the city of NYC. The city's budget is already strapped, and the protests have resulted in a tremendous new financial burden.
