'Young Gun' designation signals Senate President a formidable candidate for Congress
EASTPORT - Senate President Kevin Raye's campaign for Maine's 2nd Congressional District seat received a major boost Thursday with the announcement that Raye has achieved 'Young Gun' status, the top tier of the National Republican Congressional Committee's (NRCC) successful national recruitment program for open-seat and challenger races. Raye's designation comes as Maine newspapers are reporting on a new independent poll conducted by Critical Insights showing that the 2nd District race has tightened.
"Kevin Raye has met a series of rigorous goals that will put him in position to win on Election Day," said NRCC Chairman Pete Sessions (R-TX). "The momentum behind his campaign is proof-positive that Maine families are fed up with President Obama and Mike Michaud's policies that spend too much, tax too much and borrow too much at the expense of hard-working families."
"With Congressman Michaud's steady decline to less than 50% support in the polls, this designation of Kevin as a top-tier candidate nationally provides an enormous boost to our campaign," said Raye campaign manager Robert Caverly. "It is an affirmation of Kevin's hard work to put together a strong and effective campaign to provide a stronger voice for Maine."
The 'Young Guns' program encourages candidates who have proven their ability to meet crucial campaign benchmarks to develop their campaigns further in order to achieve victory on Election Day. In earning 'Young Gun' status, Raye has already surpassed challenging organizational and fundraising benchmarks to establish himself as a strong candidate, convincing the NRCC that he has established a clear path to victory.
