Reward? Ted Talbot Bee Killing Video???

This morning on WLOB Ray, on air, asked, "Is that a bee?"

Ted went bazooey. He got up from his chair, off-mike, and went after the bee with, I think, a mouse pad!

Ray was laughing hard. And when Ted was done snuffing the bee he was back on mic saying, "I hate bees and bugs!"

I listen to WLOB on radio, but Ray said the Fox23 cameras caught the Ted v Bee showdown on camera.

Should we offer a reward for a mpeg or wmv file of the Heavyweight Match?

Are bees an endangered species yet?

If not endangered, they sure must be threatened. I'm in the woods a lot. Wild cherries and wild apples are in blossom and I have not seen a bee this year. Not one bee.

If we lose the wild bee population I hope we have a whole lot of tree grafting experts. I mean a really big number of experts.

The Bee and the Bear...

I saw that Tues Morning and it was a hoot.
Teddy about freaked, and Ray was laughing so hard he had tears streaming down his ruddy cheeks.

I know the thing about bees; I have not seen any around here either, and we live right across the street from an apple orchard. This time of year we usually see 'em all over the blossoms, but nada this Spring.

If things don't get pollinated, we might be facing a famine here, folks. Combine that with all the droughts we're having and times could be hard towards the end of the Summer.

Where did the bees go? Lots of theories, but I don't think anyone really knows for sure.

I have a feeling that whatever attacked Ted was probably a wasp or yellow jacket, rather than a honey bee. There were always a bunch of them zooming around the studio when I was co hosting the Talkin Maine Show this time of year. That and slugs. The place is infested with 'em.

I'm pretty sure they are here at my house. We don't usually see alot of bees but this year my house is swarming with them. The only problem is I am severely allergic to them. I told my husband if I don't get stung in the next few days it will be a miracle. I have no idea where they are coming from or why. We don't have alot of flowers and only one rhodendrum (sp?). I am hoping they subside soon.

There have been a plethora of bees on our apple and cherry blossoms so far this spring.

I have seen plenty of bumblebees, but no honeybees yet.

Too late?

Just in the last couple of days we've seen a couple of bees - now that the apple blossoms have gone by.

Not many butterflies either.

Those bees swarming Estella's place sound like cats; they seem to know who is allergic to 'em and immediately gravitate to the allergy sufferer.

Estella; you might be able to hire yourself out to a Farm to sit out in the field and attract the bees to pollinate those crops!

Just keep your Epi pen handy! :?

Unless you run afoul of a hive of those "Africanized" or "Killer" bees, they are usually very docile, and won't sting unless really provoked. Like if you sit on one or put a slipper on in which one is exploring.
I used to be terrified of the things as a kid, but now am quite comfortable in the garden with them buzzing all about.

Hornets and yellow jackets are another matter though; especially the YJs; they would just as soon nail you as look at you - and they HURT!

The Boy Who Cried Ooof!

Back in the early 80's, we were beaching it on Silver Lake with friends. A bumble bee bumbled around us, and my good-sized friend the Joker got up and did a sort of wild dance while making funny nosies. We were all rolling around on the sand and laughing when he took off at a dead run, puffing up the hill, jumped in his car, and drove off. Luckily I had my truck, so after we waited a while for him to come back, and we packed up and went after him. He had gone all the way back to their house, and he was freaked and mad at us.

No one, not even his fiancee, knew he was deathly afraid of bees.

Ray said on air a couple of days ago that a copy of this video would be made available.

Ray, can you give us an update? An ETA?

Thank you.

Years ago I worked caretaking places in K-port...

I'd work in a garden, bees all around, and never got stung. I finally realized they were attracted to color and did away with colorful atire and would leave the colorful pens in my truck.

Ground hornets are a different story. Working with a chain saw you don't even know they're about till they're all over you. Spent a couple of afternoons at home daubing baking soda on the 20+ points they'd found 'in' my clothes to exact their venvence. Very unplesant.

Ground hornets pack a lot of punch in a small package. I'd like to keep a few around for backwoods topical anaesthesia, though. After the punch they numb you up pretty well.

Are ground hornets also known as yellow jackets? If so, I have run into those and they nailed me good on the ankles. The stings itched for weeks.

It seems that many people do not know the difference between bees, wasps, and hornets.

Yellow jackets nest in the ground and hit like a nailgun....so do ground hornets.

I'm pretty satisfied not knowing the difference while I am exiting their Area of Operation.

Next time I get up early to wipe out a colony, I'll check their gang colors post mortem.

Yellow Jackets and Bald-faced hornets are actually wasps, but it doesn't much matter when it's in your face...

I was watching the show that day. I know someone that tapes the show on video but doesn't have a DVD player/recorder. How do you put it on line if she can put the show on DVD? What are the rules of putting it on the web if she could figure out how?
