Another blog loses steam in Maine

Written by Staff Report

On the heels of DownEast magazine ushering in the end of blogs at its website, another prominent blogger has revealed he’s stepping away from day-to-day operation of a well-known political blog.
Gerald Weinand announced that after the Labor Day weekend, he will only act as a caretaker to the site, http://www.dirigoblue.com.

Story here.

Kind of a shame, really. Dirigo Blue, like AMG, often broke major stories before the mainstream media. But there are only so many "volunteer" hours in a week. And liberal media seems to have difficulty attracting advertisers.

I never read it regularly. It was difficult to navigate and there wasn't much interesting or new on it very often. I was surprised that Downeast dropped it blogs, but I heard that they were not being read and that some advertisers disliked Tippet so much they threatened to advertise elsewhere- like Maine Magazine. Real Estate ads are the profit margin.

Actually, people were reading the blogs on Downeast.com and nothing else. So that defeated the purpose of driving readers to the rest of the site and the paid ads.

Al Diamon's Media Mutt has a new home on the BDN website starting Aug. 30.

Mike:

Thanks for the heads up on Media Mutt. I am an avid follower and wondered what happened.

This is TERRIBLE!

Without Dirago Blue there is NO CHANCE of the Republicans taking Maine in November!

Arrghh!

In which GW finds out there's a lot more to running a successful online forum than he thought.

What's hilarious is that he won't run his blog because he's no longer being paid. So much for principles, standards, The Cause, etc.

I thought the Maine Republican Party was paying him.

"Gerald, we'll miss ye!"

Well, at least they'll have THIS Democrat blog:

Kind of a shame, really

No, it really isn't a shame - but DB was a sham. There was no news and very few comments other than from the three or four regular Republican-haters.

Dirigo Blue... often broke major stories

Really? Can you tell me one? GW spent his days reading FaceBook and newspaper column comments looking for Republican comments he could twist into a story. The man is/was pathetic and so was his web site.
