I'm sorry, I thought this was about Sarah Palin. I can certainly find enough criticism of John Baldacci here. I would say the major differences are that (a) John Baldacci is not running for Vice President and (b) nobody (certainly not his running mate) has claimed that John Baldacci hasn't sought earmarks or special-interest spending from Congress.

Which, I guess he has, with the able help of our Republican Senators.

No governor turns down federal funds for transportation and infrastructure.
Does McCain oppose all such funds?
Or does he oppose the practice of earmarking those funds for particular projects, some of which might not merit funding when stacked up against other projects in that state (or others)?

Joe, she prioritized the projects based, as I understand it, on how to get the most bang for the buck. She has also reduced the requests each year she has been in office. That sounds like pretty good fiscal discipline to me.

Joe, returning those particular funds came with a price tag in the tens of millions. Since federal funds had been spent in prior years on the project, if Alaska returned the funds for the bridge then Alaska would have had to also return the funds spent in prior years.

It's a damned if you do, damned if you don't situations.

Claiming to be reducing the number of earmarks as a sign of progress is disingenuous at the least. Governor Palin could simply had told the congressional delegation to remove them or simply told the federal government that Alaska would not accept the money.

Dead you assume that all earmarks are pork. There are legitimate infastructure projects for federal funding. Isn't part of the cost of gasoline (the federal tax on each gallon) intended for bridge and highway contruction and maintainence? Isn't it just possilbe that Palin went through the list and said we can live without some of them, thus reducing the pork?

Millions of Americans, not all of them conservative, instinctively identify with Palin. That is why the left's scorching assault, so ugly and unhinged, is backfiring. The longer it goes on, the more it undermines the Democratic ticket - and the more support it builds for McCain, and his refreshingly normal running mate.

Well, if the require a subject line, why would people not put the subject in the line?

Thanks for the explanation. I've seen what you are discussing here. SlashDot has one of those strange and difficult-to-read formats.

snip” Palin may disappoint many conservatives in the next seven weeks by having to parrot the McCain-neocon line on NATO expansion, NAFTA and a “path to citizenship” for illegal aliens. But the battle for Sarah’s soul is not over.
For, again, the lady is no neocon. Nor is the husband Todd, First Dude of Alaska and former member of the “Alaska First” Independence Party.” Snip end
Some hope in the republican arena, article from a pragmatist and former republican conservative. A better choice in 2000, one of those 3rd parties, then Bush, or am I just being stupid?

Yea, cuz I'm sure those guys would have vetoed a law prohibiting benefits to same sex couples.

Facts can be so pesky and tiresome compared to blind hate.

Falwell and Robertson: I signed it because its in the bible

Palin: I vetoed it because it's unconstitutional

And last time I checked neither of those guys were as offensive as Wright.

And Palin didn't go to either of their churches for 30 years.

Mentos- she suppported a referendum to deny state benefits for same sex couples. You're typing rubbish. She's just another narrow-minded bigot who thinks marriage should only be between a man and a woman.

PALIN’S E-MAIL ACCOUNT HACKED, PUBLISHED ON WEB SITE

...hackers have broken into the Republican vice presidential candidate’s private e-mail account, and a widely read Web site has published screen grabs from it.
An article Wednesday in Gawker.com posts family photos and snapshots of e-mail exchanges the Alaska governor had with colleagues. Gawker says the-email account has since been shut down, but it will leave the images up on its site for all to see.

laMaine, before we go further, just what exactly was that referendum going to do and how was it going to do it. No fair peeking on the internet.

Again with the uncanny juvenile inability to say my name. Maybe I'll reply in turn and make you go crying to Scott and Naran....

The only bigotry is from you. You have decided she is evil so you must feed your obsession rather than face facts. How utterly enlightened of you. You'd have fit right in at the Inquisition.

Let me see, what is that wonderfully descriptive phrase? Oh, yes, I remember...

You know what? It doesn't matter. All 4 of Maine's electoral votes will go to Obama.

Have a nice day.

Does that mean you're conceding you had no clue what that referendum actually sought to do? That you were just repeating a talking point?

This election is supposed to be about the issues. How can we have a discussion about the issues if you pick up your toys and go home?

Dave, it's irrelevant.

Maine will vote all 4 electorate votes to Obama. Get over it.

You're right it doesn't matter, just like when they went for Gore and Kerry. And you're still not over it.

I take it this means that you're not going to face being outed on your bigotry.

Of COURSE Maine's going to go for Obama--Maine has become the "magnetic North Pole" for socialism and moonbattery.

Like Obama? He said mariage is a union between one man and one woman...
