Matt just raised a great question, "And why the hell would a dues paying member want his or her money to be used for “services” benefiting folks who don’t help pay for said services?"

As Matt considers that question, I hope he also considers the HUGE amounts of cash and in-kind resources the unions/PACs like SEIU have been wasting on purely Far-Left political campaigns like protecting illegal immigrants in our country. The union bosses are using the members as financial and political puppets, but I guess people like Matt think that's OK... just like a few RINO politicians up in Augusta such as IMO Roger Katz, Matt Pouliot, Tom Saviello, Scott Cyrway, David Woodsom, Dana Dow, Tim Theriault, Kim Rosen, Jeff Pierce and Dick Campbell to name a few.

REMEMBER IN NOVEMBER.

Matt
Yes the are not members perse but would be covered under an agreement with limitations.
The services like wage protection insurance are individual services not dependent on anyone else.

Matt how about outining your experience in a public sector union ?

Bruce,

Bruce,

Experience is nada.

What does that matter? I’m writing as someone who would be pissed off if my dues benefitted free riders.

I’d also be pissed if my dues went to supporting the trump campaign, but that’s why there was an alternative fee for services structure.

OK you would be pissed off.

OK you would be pissed off.
In that case direct your emotions too the legislature not unions they created the law in Maine.

Experience is nada. Like your opinion.
By the way Matt is like many others that would be pissed off until they were getting screwed by management and rapidly join and pay dues fro full services.

If anyone were really upset

If anyone were really upset about being forced to support free riders, he'd be against non-union workers being forced to support a union.

DEAR MATT

DEAR MATT

Matt: “Experience is nada. What does that matter? I’m writing as someone who would be pissed off if my dues benefitted free riders.”

So you are imagining what your experience would be like in that situation.

Because experience always matters since it is a basis of knowledge.

Matt: “And why the hell would a dues paying member want his or her money to be used for “services” benefiting folks who don’t help pay for said services?”

They wouldn’t.

Matt: “As I said, it’ll be fun to see how it shakes out.”

Pretty much like it has shaken out in the now former right-to-work states.

(I say former because now thanks to Janus all 50 states are right-to-work states).

Unions have always organized to do business in those states but only for their dues paying members.

Employees not in the union are treated as either at-will or civil service.

And employers can pay them differently depending upon the circumstances of market forces.

State and local governments there are no more burdened by increased legal costs than anywhere else.

So I don’t think that the Janus opinion really changes that much except ending forced dues.

The real fun will begin once government ends the contract bar rule.

“For years, the Service Employees International Union (SEIU) has skimmed money off of Medicaid checks sent to in-home personal care workers. Many of these people care for relatives or friends and did not want to join a union.”
SHAME ON SEIU!

Thank you President Trump, as explained in the new article titled “Trump Moves to Protect Home Care Workers” and posted at http://seiumonitor.com/trump-moves-protect-home-care-workers/?utm_source...

"So I don’t think that the Janus opinion really changes that much except ending forced dues."

Wasn't that the most important issue here in Maine ?

"The real fun will begin once government ends the contract bar rule."
Probably not going to happen since most gov. like having the union to blame, something the unions have willingly not minded.
Given the lousy management in most public sector jobs it is likely not to be done away with. Besides employees will stay just as indifferent anyway .
As we saw in Maine Gov. managed to appeal to the basic need, more pay, kill fair share and union also.
Rat Ron is sitting at his camp with a LePage voodoo doll as we speak I am sure. Remodeled by non union labor bythe way!

For the moment then yes.

But it was just one battle in an ongoing war against all forms of anti-free market oligarchy.

B.L. said: "Remodeled by non union labor bythe way!"

Please explain and expound more on this apparent hypocrisy!

With a little luck, those overly greedy folks at organizations like the Maine SEIU will eventually be held accountable for all of the wrongs they've done to so many good Maine workers...

Just The Beginning? SCOTUS Janus Ruling Could Cost Unions Big In Reimbursements

“If the plaintiffs are successful, the lawsuit could open the door to a potential flood of litigation demanding unions reimburse workers for the dues labor organizations have grabbed over the past four decades.”

“For too long, many union

For too long, many union members have been kept in the dark about their union’s finances. Some unions are run in a transparent, democratic manner, but many others are run autocratically with minimal transparency and accountability.

This lack of transparency too often allows unscrupulous union officials to embezzle or misuse union funds; and each year, the federal government prosecutes scores of these officials for their crimes.”

Does this sound like what’s been happening here in Maine, or what?

With the Janus ruling now official, union members have a major opportunity to speak up and demand changes and more fiscal accountability in their unions. It's time for action if we want to see positive changes in groups like the Maine SEIU and Maine AFSCME.

The Maine SEIU and their

The Maine SEIU and their growing connections with the Socialist movement

This factoid won't surprise many folks, but it's certainly worth posting for more people to be aware of:

From the PPH:
Democratic socialism surging in the age of Trump, and a Maine candidate takes the leap
posted at https://www.pressherald.com/2018/07/21/democratic-socialism-surging-in-t...

While the article is primarily about US Senate candidate Zak Ringelstein, it also mentions and quotes a woman named Meg Reilly from the Southern Maine chapter of the DSA (Democratic Socialist of America):

"The group’s chairman, 25-year-old union organizer Meg Reilly, wore a T-shirt featuring three roses.

She cheered the “comrades” softball team’s recent season before moving to an agenda that touched on climate change legislation, a book share program “to further your socialist education,” and an exchange program that lets community members swap favors such as jewelry repair, pet sitting or cooking."

As you can see from the Maine SEIU website, Meg is either a current or past staff member for that extreme Far-Left labor union/PAC: https://www.mseaseiu.org/index.php/our-staff/

YOU BETCHA!

YOU BETCHA!

Avery T. Horton, Jr., says: “It's time for new leadership and a leaner and meaner fighting machine that puts members first. A union that members would want to join rather than run from.”

It's amazing how the dynamics of free market economics makes for greater efficiency and better business.

Hence the phrase "The Miracle of the Market."

Good enough for restaurants and insurance companies, so good enough for labor unions!

It was not that long ago that I remember being delighted to see just 5,000+ views here.

Just goes to show you how perversely newsworthy these Stalinist rats & pigs are. .

Especially when you shine a light on them long enough as we steadfastly have here.

EUREKA!

EUREKA!

Matt said: "MF, do you still think non-fee paying workers should be able to work off the contract bargained by the union?"

No I don't.

Like any employee-at-will they should only work off the employment contract they bargain for themselves.

If they want the benefit of a union's collectively bargained contract then they should voluntarily pay for that.

Which means unions should just negotiate their collective bargaining contracts for their dues paying members only.

Just like they now do in right-to-work states.

Just like restaurants do everywhere: they only serve customers who pay them.

Rhetorically speaking why is this a novel concept for SEIU Animal Farm defenders?
