“Of the 20 unions with the largest political expenditures, only two made any serious efforts to be bipartisan in their contributions: the National Air Traffic Controllers Association and the Air Line Pilots Association. Those two unions both gave more than 40 percent of their total political contributions to Republicans. For years, unions have disrespected the views of many of their members to fund Democrats and liberal causes, and they continue to do so. In the future, perhaps the Janus decision will lead to changes in the causes and candidates that public sector unions support.”
I don’t think MSEA or SEIU will change, they’ll just double down after their Janus member losses.
And keep supporting the same old same old Democrats.
Workers who don’t want to be part of liberal labor unions should just start or find their own unions.
Ones that will represent both their political and economic interests rather than the Democrats.
Aiir Traffic Controllers .
I wonder why ?
Bruce, are you referring to Ronald Reagan's showdown with PATCO in the early 1980's?
Sonny said "I don’t think MSEA or SEIU will change, they’ll just double down after their Janus member losses."
Although I wish you were wrong on that, Sonny, I'd bet the farm you're absolutely right... and I hope more members will soon realize that fact and take action so they get better representation. However, that old saying about leading a horse to water might apply to this situation.
What is SEIU hiding?
Why are they working so hard to protect illegal aliens here in our USA?
Do our local members of MSEA-SEIU Local 1989 really support SEIU idiots like who can be seen in the video clip posted at https://youtu.be/7wBMkMPHGsQ
Yes , they have long memories .
I remember a conversation with one of the fired union members who got hired here in Maine.
Essentially he offered the prevelant disbelief among the community that the union would prevail and nothing would happen !
After protests at Berkley as Gov. he found union easier to deal with.
My co workwer offered it also diminished his belief on unions.
SEIU members are still being used as financial and political puppets by their union masters...
SEIU drops 1M on PRECKWINKLE — Guess who’s on our POWER LIST — AXELROD on the mayor’s race
“This year, the Service Employees International Union state council is weighing in with a $1 million contribution to Toni Preckwinkle’s campaign — just weeks after the Cook County Board president announced $700 million in spending above the current county budget and an infusion of money into county hospitals, which are run in part by the ranks of SEIU employees.
“The Service Employees International Union state council will put its money where its mouth is in the race for mayor, following its endorsement of Toni Preckwinkle with a $1 million contribution to her campaign. The seven-figure donation ratchets up the fundraising arms race among the mayoral contenders, and shows why the backing of a union such as SEIU can be important as the candidates try to find the money to pay for advertising to get their messages out and separate themselves from the crowded field,” the Tribune’s John Byrne reports.”
Yet another wasted $1M by the greedy bosses in this so-called labor union that mostly acts
like a Far-Left political action committee. As they say, nothing changes if nothing changes! :-(

QUESTION: Is anyone within state government management watching public servants like Dave Projansky, who also clearly work as political activists and/or labor union/PAC officers to ensure they're not on-the-clock and wasting tax dollars when out doing their political activities?
See “MSEA-SEIU Directors Jen Neumeyer and Luci Levesque and MSEA-SEIU Retiree Director George Burgoyne talk with State Rep. Matt Pouliot about the importance of passing a state budget that: 1) prevents a state government shutdown; 2) funds the jobs in the current state budget; 3) protects the retiree cost of living adjustment; and 4) funds the surcharge dedicated to public education.”

Gideon appoints self-described Portland ‘socialist’ to lead Maine Legislature’s Labor Committee
AUGUSTA – After splitting Maine’s Labor, Commerce, Research and Economic Development committee in two, Maine House Speaker Sara Gideon has announced that Portland Representative Mike Sylvester will serve as the Chair of the Maine Legislature’s Labor &Housing Committee.
Rep. Sylvester is in his second term as a Representative in the Maine House, and is an outspoken socialist. As Chair of the Labor & Housing Committee, Sylvester will lead the committee that seeks to legislate on matters related to labor laws, wages and public housing issues, among other things.

Well, first they're going to have to order a lot of barbwire for the (ahem) re-education camps.
Then get the "convicted" peasants to dig the moats around them for the alligators.
And then have a few of the peasants test the gator filled moats to make sure they work.
Sonny, you could be right on that... that movement is alive and strong in Maine, and it clearly involves certain labor unions/PACs like the MSEA-SEIU Local 1989. In fact, here's a related article from POLITICO that's quite interesting and explains how some labor unions are involved:
What Would a Socialist America Look Like?
By POLITICO MAGAZINE September 03, 2018
“To move in the Nordic direction, the United States should promote the mass unionization of its workforce, increase legal protections against arbitrary termination and allow workers to control some of the seats on the corporate boards of the companies they work in, as Senator Elizabeth Warren has recently suggested.” ((emphasis added))

WHAT WOULD A SOCIALIST AMERICA LOOK LIKE?
Like the USSR with SEIU as its Politburo.
And like all governments without separation of powers it would be very authoritarian.
Where on a good day you might get a bit of a potato in your soup at the re-education camps.
That is if you get past the alligator filled moats.

Much of the dues paid by those who belong to an AFT local union are shipped off to the state and national union. In the case of my own local, in 2014, over $1 million was collected in dues. Significant amounts were sent to the California Federation of Teachers (over $500,000) and to the national American Federation of Teachers (over $225,000.) From the 2016 tax return, one learns that national American Federation of Teachers President Randi Weingarten salary package was for over $510,000 and that four other officials made in excess of $300,000. According to the California Federation of Teachers 2015 tax return, six state officials had salary packages of more than $270,000. Financially struggling part-time faculty are paying dues to enable union officers to receive what, for most people, are lavish salaries—small compared to that received by some corporate CEOs, movie stars and professional athletes, but significantly greater than even members of Congress who in 2018 were paid $174,000!
Lots of union members all across our country are getting pretty disgusted with their overly greedy union/PAC bosses, and it's good to see and hear it more out in public... as illustrated in this cartoon:
Can you tell some union members are not happy with their greedy union bosses? That cartoon is certainly sending a strong message… but will they hear it and change their ways?
WORKERS OF THE WORLD YOU HAVE NOTHING TO LOSE BUT YOUR CHAINS!
MF said: "Can you tell some union members are not happy with their greedy union bosses? That cartoon is certainly sending a strong message… but will they hear it and change their ways?"
I find that most people prefer to avoid conflict and would rather not rock the boat.
Because they just want to get on with their lives.
And so given freedom of choice they would just vote with their feet.
Thereby easily leaving their crooked union for a better one without needing the government's prior permission.
But that won't happen unless or until we have full government deregulation of labor unions.
Because that will end their protected market rackets based upon the current "contract bar rule".
“In reality, Janus prevailing is a blessing in disguise — a correction that was long overdue. Unions were born to work towards better and safer working conditions, and better wages and compensation for their members, not for union bosses and staff. In the 21st Century, unions have turned away from their core reasons for existence and instead have involved themselves — and members’ dues — in just about every political social justice cause under the sun. They also used member dues to pad their pockets with yearly salary and benefit increases but gave nothing back to dues-paying members.”

SEIU Takes The Fight For 15 To The Footsteps of Congress
“It should not therefore be surprising that the SEIU donated $335,509 to members of the House Education and Labor Committee during the 2018 election cycle alone. Rep. Scott, the committee chair, has received over $45,000 in campaign contributions from the SEIU over the span of his congressional career. Other committee members, such as Reps. Suzanne Bonamici, Joe Courtney, and Frederica Wilson each received at least $20,000. Rep. Raul Grijalva (D-Nevada) received just over $55,000.
Except for Rep. David Trone (D-Maryland) and nonvoting Delegate Gregorio Kilili Sablan (D-Northern Mariana Islands), every Democrat on the committee has received campaign donations from the SEIU.”
“The NLRB’s decision was in many ways a recognition by appointees of President Barack Obama of the importance of SEIU’s support for his two candidacies: In 2008, SEIU spent a self-declared $60 million to support Obama’s initial campaign, and in 2012 the union spent at least $70 million backing Democrats. The new Education and Labor Committee’s priorities, if left unchecked, promise to continue what President Obama started.”

But it's great to see more reports of workers also trying to hold the SEIU crooks accountable for their actions.
For example, from January 18, 2019 (yesterday in NH):
Two state workers seek payback of union fees in lawsuit
"Patrick Doughty and Randy Severance, who are not union members, sued the State Employees’ Association of New Hampshire, SEIU Local 1984, on Monday. They asked a judge to order union officials to refund fees taken from their wages and other New Hampshire public employees."
"They point to a U.S. Supreme Court ruling last June that said government workers can’t be forced to contribute to labor unions that represent them in collective bargaining. Unions had argued that so-called fair share fees pay for collective bargaining and other work the union does on behalf of all employees, not just its members."
"Doughty, a Department of Transportation worker, says between October 2012 and last June, he was forced by the union and the state, as a condition of employment, to pay union fees without his consent. Severance, who works in the Department of Information Technology, said he was forced to pay the fees from 2006 to last June."

YA BEEN HAD, YA BEEN TOOK, YA BEEN BAMBOOZLED!
Political euphemism (for bribes):
M.F. reports: “It should not therefore be surprising that the SEIU donated $335,509 to members of the House Education and Labor Committee during the 2018 election cycle alone.”
Beyond political euphemism (and just plain stupid):
M.F. reports: “In 2008, SEIU spent a self-declared $60 million to support Obama’s initial campaign, and in 2012 the union spent at least $70 million backing Democrats.”
Obama’s big lie (or one of them anyway):
"I will make it the law of the land when I'm President of the United States."
US Senator Obama told the AFL-CIO in April 2008 about getting them Card Check for organizing.
Obama silent on card check bill (because Wall Street Banks paid him more):
President Obama's first major White House event aimed at wooing organized labor came and went Friday without any mention of the union's movement's top priority: so-called card check legislation pending on Capitol Hill.
Democrats paid a huge price for letting unions die!
With its financial contributions and grassroots organizing, the labor movement helped give Democrats full control of the federal government three times in the last four decades. And all three of those times — under Jimmy Carter, Bill Clinton, and Barack Obama — Democrats failed to pass labor law reforms that would to bolster the union cause. In hindsight, it’s clear that the Democratic Party didn’t merely betray organized labor with these failures, but also, itself.
And how much did all of the dues-paying SEIU members around the world get from the HUGE campaign support they gave Hillary?
GO FIGURE WITH DEMOCRATS!
