Sen. Boxer Lying About Husband's Military Service?

During that exchange, Mr. Alfond referred to himself as a U.S. Army veteran. In response, Sen. Boxer said she is “married to a veteran.” The implication, at least, is that she is married to a military veteran. However, there is no mention of Mr. Stewart Boxer’s military service in any of Sen. Boxer’s bios I’ve found - including her official bio. ( You can hear this exchange between Boxer and Alfond below.)
Question: Is Sen. Boxer’s husband, Stewart, a military veteran? If so, when/where was in the military?
NOTE: This item’s also posted for discussion in this ongoing thread here.
"By the way, Boxer’s husband was reportedly a civilian merchant marine. Since it is a civilian position, the ONLY reason she gets to call him a veteran (which allows her to pretend she doesn’t totally hate the military-but actions speak louder than words) is because Reagan signed a bill into law granting the merchant marines veteran status so they could get veteran’s benefits that would not otherwise be given to a civilian service. Guess she has at least one thing to thank Reagan for, but I digress…."
It tells us something about politicians that so many of both parties find it so easy to spout obvious lies. It seems to me that distrust, even distaste, for people in that trade is an attitude appropriate for conservatives. It is consistent with the understanding that the desire for power and celebrity makes men dangerous. No reason to exempt anyone for reasons for party loyalty.
As I mentioned in the other thread about this, her husband, Stewart Boxer, was an anti-war protester in 1967 and/or 1968 in Marin County, just across the bridge from The City. Mrs. Boxer was an anti-war activist at least until 1970, though I sort of lost track of the local political movement for a few years after that.
I don't think it was ever used against them or anything, as it WAS San Francisco, and it WAS the Vietnam era. But I don't imagine Stew had a change of heart and decided to go off to war, but you never know.

No mention of it in Mr. Senator Boxer's own bio on his law firm website.
Other bios of Senator B.B., like this one mention she married Stewart when she was a senior. She worked to put him through law school.
No mention of ROTC or reserves.
Maybe Babs meant he is a 'veteran' of the Vietnam-era antiwar movement.
What a 'maroon'....
Too bad the Stolen Valor Act of 2005 can't be re-interpreted to include people who claim their spouses are 'veterans'. I know, I know...it's not the intent of the law. But...I can dream.
