Harry Alford is the top guy at the nation's Black Chamber of Commerce, which opposes the cap and trade plan.
He appeared as a witness before Boxer's energy committee. When she proceeded to wave in front of him documents showing that other black groups are supporting her legislation, Mr. Alford took offense, telling her she was being condescending to him, bringing racial politics into a discussion of energy policy.
Metaphorically she was telling him to get back on the plantation.

Babs is the face of liberal arrogance and it was a real thrill to watch someone finally tell her to get stuffed. It's too bad that General whats-his-name didn't do the same a few weeks ago: Ma'am, pound sand.

The fact that California elected Boxer tells us much about California. And may explain why that state is in such desperate straits.

‘It Was Vile Jim Crow’: Exclusive Interview With Black Business Leader Insulted by Sen. Boxer

"Colored boy, what are you doing with this sophisticated report?...It was condecending, being in Mississippi in 1945 and you've got uppity white boss...vile Jim Crow....she owes America an apology."

"The NAACP is going to do a resolution."

OTOH - when you call yourself the "Black Chamber of Commerce," you might expect to get a tiny bit of reference to racial issues... just once in a while.

Doesn't matter, Naran. Sen. Boxer here is way, way out-of-line. Perhaps she could find something to do with her finger rather than wagging it at people.

Scott, I don't disagree.

Maybe we could start calling her "Bony-Fingers Boxer."

Thank you, Scott for that observation. It's far more to the point than the one I was composing.

I don't intend to reopen the pointless debate over whether Bill Clinton was impeached for adultery or perjury. I, for one, thought impeachment was way overboard for either offense. What I did object to, boisterously, vociferously and durned near venomously, was his finger-wagging while spitting/snarling out his , "I did not . . ." It's insulting and demeaning. Parents wag fingers at small children. I wag a finger at my dog when she thinks about raiding the cat's dish.

Boxer doesn't care. She'll insult or demean anyone and attempt to envelop any challenge with persiflage. If she gets called on that she resorts to procedural justifications for her insults.

At one point in trying to defend herself, Sen. Boxer said that her husband is a veteran as well. I've done a couple of searches including her husband Stewart's, own bio for his law firm but I found nothing. Does anyone know if her statement was accurate?

I heard the "discussion" again on the radio and basically Boxer was saying I don't give a damn what's in your report, we're going with the NAACP version. He was offended that his report needed backing from a "black group" instead of standing on it's own.

If a Republican had done that, we'd be hearing calls for censure and/or resignation.

Barbara Boxer was my representative when I lived in my native California. I was sitting in the room with her and Dianne Feinstein the night they won their Senate seats. I was, in fact, the person who relayed that news to them, at which point they linked arms and did a "Wizard of Oz" type stroll around the room.]

But I digress.

If memory serves, Stewart was an anti-war protester in 1967 and/or 1968 in Marin County, just across the bridge from The City. Mrs. Boxer was an anti-war activist at least until 1970, though I sort of lost track of the local political movement for a few years after that.

Now, I suppose it's possible that Stew changed his mind and fought, but I don't remember that happening.

Like I said - I don't disagree that Boxer was way out of line.

However, why name an organization "Black" whatever, if you don't want it lumped into a racial category of discussion on occasion?

Mr. Alford did not just show up at these hearings. H ehad either to apply or be invited to participate. In either case, Ma'am Boxer had to be aware and consent to his participation.

It's sad enough that anyone feels there is a need for a Black Chamber of Commerce. Would Ma'am Boxer leap to her feet on the floor to interrupt a member of the Black Congressional Caucus who had the floor to press her insistence that position papers from the NAACP be read into the record in advance of his contribution?

Granted, in her experience, there have only been two members of that caucus in the senate. One is now sitting as president, and the other, by hook or crook holds the seat he vacated. Mayhaps her attitude would benefit from more contact with those of darker complexion than her own, giving her the opportunity to observe that they have opinions that are as uncolored by their complexion as she believes her own to be.

If this had happened near the end of Mr. Alford's testimony (and supposing that he was arguing that the measure woud have a disparate impact on the black business community) and she had documents in hand for the record opposing or limiting that view it would be one thing. But this was pure intimidation. No doubt the process of vetting witnesses disclosed that he had a view she wouldn't like, and she chose an opposing opinion from another black group to throw in his face. Pure intimidation in every respect, and contrary to the notion that hearings are intended to enlighten the lawmakers.

Claude -

I think you've hit on something. I've checked Sen. Boxer's web and a few other sites. No mention of any military service for her husband, Stewart.

On the other hand, how to explain the obvious enthusiasm on the faces of these U.S. Marines? Full Size Pic

Maybe she "mispoke" as they say in Washington...maybe Stewart thought he was in the military or maybe she thought Stewart had been in the military obiviously she wasn't at the briefing.... :)

Not unusual to see ultra left operatives playing the race card, but what is so amusing is to see them play it against each other.
