Senate President Kevin Raye to Welcome U.S. Marines at End of Their Appalachian Trail Hike

Millinocket event to honor WarriorHike.com Effort to Raise Funds for Wounded Warriors

MILLINOCKET – Maine Senate President Kevin L. Raye will be at American Legion Post 80 in Millinocket at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 31st to welcome U.S. Marine Captains Mark Silvers and Sean Gobin as they complete a 2,180-mile hike of the Appalachian Trail to raise funds for wounded warriors. 100% of all donations to WarriorHike.com are devoted to providing grants for adapted vehicles for wounded veterans.

Raye’s office reached out to Katahdin area veterans, state legislators and Maine media outlets to help raise awareness of the duo’s trek. The day after the Millinocket reception in their honor, the two Marines will summit Mount Katahdin to mark the end of their journey.

"I was pleased to help raise awareness about WarriorHike.com and the admirable and selfless mission of Captains Silvers and Gobin in hiking 2,180 miles through 14 states to help fellow veterans wounded in service to our nation. My office worked with Captain Silvers’s mother Mrs. Jo Silvers to help get word out to Mainers about this noble cause. I look forward to meeting Captain Silvers and Captain Gobin to thank them and congratulate them in person," said Raye.

"On August 1, Mark Silvers and Sean Gobin will summit Mt. Katahdin after hiking 2,180 miles of the Appalachian Trail to raise funds and awareness for veterans of Afghanistan and Iraq who need adaptive vehicles. In each state, along the trail, it has been challenging to get the word out about their mission. I attribute the success of Warrior Hike in Maine to the media support generously provided by the office of Senate President Kevin Raye," said Mrs. Jo Silvers, of WarriorHike.com.
