The Belfast Tea Party in the American Legion Hall, 143 Church Street yesterday was done very well. At least 150 people attended (by my count), all six GOP candidates for U.S. Senate were there, the two GOP candidates for the 2nd District Congressional race were also represented.

Each candidate had a table with campaign info and paraphernalia and someone to answer questions. Two musicians - I think they called themselves Rural Route 3 - provided acoustic music interludes. I had just written my name, address, and email address on the Belfast Tea Party sign-in sheet when I heard the sweet sounds of Greensleeves played on a musical saw!

I just wanted to say thank you to the Belfast Tea Party, to John Ford who moderated the event, and to all the candidates attending for a thoroughly informative, enjoyable Saturday afternoon.

Best,

The U.S. Senate candidates sat in a semi-circle at the head of the event room. Under the blue D'Amboise campaign sign, (L-R) starting under the "2" in "2012" is Bill Schneider, Bruce Poliquin, Deb Plowman (standing with mic), Rick Bennett (blocked from view by Plowman), to Plowman's left, seated, Scott D'Amboise (white shirt), Charlie Summers. So it wasn't a tea party rally then was it? It was a Republican rally. Despite what some people claim the tea party is not the cranky wing of the Republican Party. If this were a true tea party event, like they have in Worcester (Mass), all "liberty" candidates would have been invited.

AID - Speaking in my capacity as someone born in Worcester, MA -- your post has more than a touch of sour grapes. Am I misreading what you've written? This was a rally held by the Belfast Tea Party. I have no idea how candidates were invited, nor who invited them. It was a very good event. Did you ask to appear at this event and were told no? If so, what reason were you given?

I just know that the Worcester tea party this year had both libertarians and Republicans at it including an appearance of Gary Johnson. It was a rally for liberty candidates of whatever party.

I think calling the event yesterday a tea party forum rather than a rally would be more accurate. Considering the Republicans have a primary on the 12th then it makes sense to invite them all to a forum & have no independents (because they have no primary).

I am sorry if my previous comment was not as specific as it should have been and sounded a bit bitchy. It was not intended as such.

AID, if you want to be taken seriously then you must act that way. Complaining that you or other "liberty" minded people are not at an event makes your candidacy seem low budget and pedantic. If that is what you are going for in your campaign, then you have succeeded sir.

I didn't read AIDs comments as sour grapes, but rather as a statement of the obvious. People gathering to meet candidates isn't what I envision as a tea party rally either, but more of a meet&greet.

Greensleeves must have been wonderful and I am sure everyone enjoyed it an had a great time. Congrats to those who took time and effort to assure it was well attended. Was there a score-card filled out and is there going to be a Belfast Tea Party endorsement? That would be interesting.
