Awesome:
Rhode Island Bishop, Most Rev. Thomas Tobin:
Congressman Patrick Kennedy's statement about the Catholic Church's position on health care reform is irresponsible and ignorant of the facts. But the Congressman is correct in stating that "he can't understand." He got that part right.
Smackdown: Patrick Kennedy's bishop calls him "ignorant... a disappointment"
About time!
Providence Bishop Thomas J. Tobin has forbidden Rep. Patrick J. Kennedy to receive the Roman Catholic sacrament of Holy Communion because of his advocacy of abortion rights, the Rhode Island Democrat said Friday.
“The bishop instructed me not to take Communion and said that he has instructed the diocesan priests not to give me Communion,” Kennedy said in a telephone interview.
Kennedy said the bishop had explained the penalty by telling him “that I am not a good practicing Catholic because of the positions that I’ve taken as a public official,” particularly on abortion.

Quite a crackdown. I wonder why they are doing it now?
An even harder public "smackdown"...
(Bishop Thomas J. Tobin writes) ... “(Kennedy open public letter) The fact that I disagree with the hierarchy on some issues does not make me any less of a Catholic.” That sentence..deserves a public response, lest it go unchallenged and lead others to believe it’s true....when someone rejects the teachings of the Church, especially on a grave matter, a life-and-death issue like abortion, it certainly does diminish their ecclesial communion...if you don’t accept the teachings of the Church your communion with the Church is flawed, or in your own words, makes you “less of a Catholic.”...Congressman, I’m not sure whether or not you fulfill the basic requirements of being a Catholic...

I have read and re-read this statement from the above-mentioned article, and I am entirely unable to see why he is restating the obvious.
Clearly, by the very definition of a good Catholic, he is not one, as evidenced by his public statements. Whether he takes those positions as a public official, as a Catholic, or as a kangaroo, he is taking those positions, and they refute one of the very basics of Catholicism: the sanctity of life.
My understanding is that in order to participate in the sacrament of communion, one must repent of ones sins. Mr. Kennedy has not only not done that, but he has encouraged others to commit what the Church believes is murder.
Is Mr. Kennedy so bereft of a conscience that he does not see that? Is he so bereft of sensibility that he is not embarrassed by the consequences of his behavior and "positions"?
Quite a crackdown. I wonder why they are doing it now?
Actually, they are NOT doing it now - they did it two years ago.
Kennedy peddled the idea that the Church is opposing Obama's health plan, and so is dping this to punish Kennedy's support of the plan, and that's how the MSM picked it up.
The recent disclosure that this happened two years ago shows what a liar the lefties are, especially when attacking the Catholic Church.

Or, the entire forest, for that matter. I wrote on the other forum (without checking this one first, as I would have placed my question here):
Has any Bishop (or another above him) ever openly questioned Papa Joe, Ted, or any other in the Kennedy clan (those now deceased, that is)?
I think the answer to that is 'probably not', although I may be mistaken. Their political leanings were no different than those of Patrick's...
