Smiley to Smite Leftist in State Senate District 14 Jay/Oxford Co

Dan Smiley is a true small government conservative and newspaper publisher who will give the liberal John Patrick, a union owned hack, a real run for his money in the Democrat primary.

Who benefits most? The Republican candidate is Sawin Millett. This is a really tough district for the GOP, and anything we can do to stir up the conservative blue collar Democrats ON THE ISSUES will help us in November. Best case scenario: a WIN/WIN with Smiley vs. Millett.

I wish I lived in one of these towns so I could contribute $5 to Dan's Clean Elections Campaign. He is the MOST Conservative Democrat in the state and his opponent is a committed enemy of economic progress and fiscal restraint in government....

THIS IS VITAL / IF YOU LIVE IN DAN'S DISTRICT, Here is the link to contribute $5: http://www.maine.gov/online/ethics/cleanelection

I have seen materials that

I have seen materials that Smiley has designed for other candidates. I found them nasty and ineffective. And I am not someone who is against negative campaigns.

The only impact of Smiley's candidacy will be to give Patrick more money during the primary to build his name recognition.

My prediction is Smiley get about a third of the vote in the primary.

Dear Dan, YES, but did you

Dear Dan,

YES, but did you send the money?

More to the point, Is this a spoof post? A conservative known for his negative campaign prowess takes on a liberal union drone in a Dem district where the GOP has an outstanding candidate. If Smiley gets "a third of the vote", all of those votes will be anti-liberal votes based on issues. UPSHOT: Sawin Millett wins State Senate seat in strong Dem district in GOP sweep year.

You could believe everything you wrote above, Dan, and still realize the right move is to urge others to contribute, Please do so.

Just because someone votes

Just because someone votes for Smiley in a primary does not mean that they will vote for Millett in the General Election.

My point on the money is that the extra Clean Elections money that Patrick gets is probably going to help him more than whatever ham-handed attacks made by Smiley. Also, if Smiley uses good issues against Patrick in a poor manner, it will make it harder to use those issues in the general election.

As for contributing, I don't give money to Democrats. I will leave that to Les Otten.

Unleash this guy on the Dems!

Unleash this guy on the Dems! Here is one of Dan's "clumsy" ads, which was nominated for a Polly Award and got a very respectable score (and drew an ethics complaint from John Martin, which was dismissed): http://fraryforcongress.com/docs/Three_Amigos_of_the_NM_Woods_SAU.pdf

Here we go again, once DAN

Here we go again, once DAN gets his trusty blunderbuss in hand his IQ immediately spirals down. Remove that blunderbuss from his twitchy grip and he would understand that the only GOP candidate in 2008 with a chance of unseating a three-term incumbent in a light blue district would be an independently wealthy war hero with a gorgeous wife who was a famous sports star. There were but four rational goals in running: 1) educational, to propose and propagate a set of ideas; 2) to mess with the incumbent; 3) to encourage GOP conservatives by fielding a candidate in sympathy with their beliefs; 4) to spare the Republicans from the disgrace of running no one against a notorious dimwit.

There were no other possible goals save building name recognition for a 2010 run and he has never suggested any.

If he had any ideas for more effective negative ads, he has never revealed them.

If Dan Smiley is willing to put in the time and effort to expose Patrick's repellent record to the voters then he deserves credit, not an immediate attack. Elections being the crap-shoots they are, a pre-mortem "analysis" is merely an exercise in pointless, purposeless malice.

I know Dan he is a god

I know Dan he is a god conservative guy. I think he will force Patick to the left, which is what is happening and that will be trouble in the Fall for him should he win. Patrick is already playing his Democratic cards with eveyone I know and I am keeping track. He may walk right off a cliff remember we won major victories in Maine in 1994 as well as nationally.
