Spam warning - "The End of Barack Obama"

For the past week or two I've been getting TONS of spam email with some variant on "The End of Barack Obama" in the header line. The body of the email references an article written by Porter Stansbury and invites you to click on a link.

These are spam messages. Dunno where the links take you, but it's a safe bet that they take you nowhere good. Strongly suggest deleting all such messages unread.

That was unnecessary, TPP.

That was unnecessary, TPP. This item just started showing up and it's highly specific to people with a given ideological bent (as opposed to the normal spam that focuses on greed). Given that many people distressed with the current occupant of the White House pay attention to this site, it would seem to be a courtesy to mention it.

I watched one of these while

I watched one of these while waiting for a ;ate appointment. After 45 minutes of asking simple questions, the point finally came out. They wanted me to buy some very expensive dried foods.

Eagleisland, I am not sure

Eagleisland, I am not sure why you are taking offense at posting a fun video of an Grammy award-winning song related to your chosen topic.

But if we are comparing the "necessity" of posts, I am not sure this thread is going to win any awards. Try this next time -- http://bit.ly/17g7waw -- I promise the link isn't a virus.

Get over yourself, TPP. That was intended as a dis, and we both know it.

What you MIGHT not know is that many of the people who visit here aren't as experienced with the Web as you and I are.

Eagleisland, pointing out

Eagleisland, pointing out that you "warned" us about a "spam" link that you provided no useful information about, and didn't bother to even look up, was a "dis", in direct response to your own. That's how things work on the streets.

My posting that video, however, was *not* a "dis" -- the goal was to lighten the mood and hopefully ensure that those who visit this thread didn't completely waste their time. Poodle Hat is a great album, it won a Grammy for a reason. Sorry you felt threatened by it, that wasn't my intent.

Bullcrap, TPP. Again, TPP,

Bullcrap, TPP.

Again, TPP, get over yourself. Roger Ek, who is an AMG member of far longer standing than you, has acknowledged getting sucked in by one of these messages.

At minimum, those who click those links waste their time. It's a fair bet, given the way things work on the Web (upon which I'll bet I've been playing a lot longer than you have) that some of the more recent links are a lot less forgiving than demanding that you watch a video.

I'll also venture the guess that if Roger had seen this post a week ago, he wouldn't even have watched the vid.

Yes, I am sure you would have

Yes, I am sure you would have saved Roger the 45 minutes he spent by letting him know that the email was not a personal one from a friend, and what the title of it was. Because he didn't know any of that. You *saved* him. Too bad you seem to think he isn't smart enough to figure out whether or not to continue watching a video for 45 minutes, without the benefit of your warning that... the title seemed suspicious to you.

Perhaps you may notice that my original comment did not criticize your post in any way nor address you, and that it was on the topic of a potentially dangerous payload (aka virus), which you apparently suspected the email contained -- although we know now it didn't. If I had wanted to criticize you I would have taken the time to Google it first, as you should have done yourself.

As in past conversations with you I am not getting anything out of this, nor do I imagine anyone else wants to hear it... so you can continue arguing with yourself if you like. Feel free to get the last word in!
