I've met Steve once or twice and is a very smart and engaging person. His background is in marketing/pr and might do better than people expect. This isn't an endorsement nor do I have any relationship with him (personal or business). He will take votes from Gov Lorax.

Doesn't say if he's made the ballot yet. He should get some of his petitions out if he hasn't yet.

Independent Senate candidate Steve Woods says he's endorsing the candidacy of Angus King, but that doesn't mean Woods won't be trying to beat him November.

Candidate Steve Woods Offers Endorsement to Angus King
Independent US Senate Candidate Wants to Avoid "Spoiler" Dynamic in Senate Race

FALMOUTH, Maine, June 13, 2012 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Steve Woods, an Independent candidate now certified to appear on the November 6th, election ballot for the United States Senate representing Maine, announced today that he will be joining Angus King in publically stating that he will not play the "spoiler" in the November election. And as part of that agreement, Woods endorsed King as being, "…smart, honest, moral, articulate, charismatic, funny, warm, thoughtful and more politically astute than Bill Clinton & Ronald Reagan combined. And, of course, a man of the people; driving an RV across America, riding motorcycles through the rolling hills of Northern Maine, bowling strikes, drinking beer and telling folksy stories are all core elements of both the man & mythology of Angus King."

Early in his campaign, King announced that if he "couldn't win" the Senate election that he would not be a spoiler and change the dynamic of the race and that he would end his campaign.

Said Woods, "I have great respect for Angus King and I share his commitment to the citizens of Maine not to allow for a fractured candidate field to cause a Senate election result contrary to the majority will of the voters. During our last gubernatorial election here in Maine, many voters (61%ers) felt/feel as though a fragmented voting bloc allowed a non-majority candidate to win the election with less than a mandate. The same charge was made in the 2000 Presidential election when it was suggested that Ralph Nader siphoned too many votes from Al Gore, causing him to lose Florida – and swinging the national election. I'm sure that neither of us would like to see the same thing happen again in Maine in 2012 with so much at stake here in Maine and across America."

"For that reason, this morning I met with Angus King at his campaign headquarters and hand delivered a letter to him offering a simple and straightforward mutual agreement. In the spirit of "country first" and "Maine first," I proposed that he and I enter into an iron-clad agreement to enforce that promise to the citizens of Maine. My proposal; if either one of us has a 10-point deficit (or more) behind the other in an impartial poll (Critical Insights or another mutually agreeable polling organization) exactly one week before the November 6th election, then that person will resign from the race by informing the media on October 30th. Furthermore, the resigning candidate will send an email to all of his supporters on October 31st encouraging them to support the prevailing Independent candidate. My meeting with Angus was very positive and cordial," explained Woods.

"Angus and I share a deep rooted respect for Abe Lincoln, Margaret Chase Smith and other great political leaders with legacies of bold leadership, selfless civic duty and personal sacrifice. By entering into this unprecedented "Maine First" campaign agreement, I'm hoping that we're able to change the tone and tenor of the upcoming campaign to a more respectful dialogue between us and Mainers – while reinforcing the need and opportunity for an "Independent" from Maine to join the US Senate and help to loosen the partisan gridlock," Woods said.

When asked, "why now?, Woods offered, "The reason that I am endorsing Angus now in June is not because I believe that he could do a better job than me in representing Mainers in the U.S. Senate – I don't. Between now and November 6th I will do my best to demonstrate to each and every Maine voter why I am the best candidate to earn their vote. I truly believe that I possess a unique set of qualifications and a meaningful skill set that is best suited to effectively represent Maine in the United States Senate. But regardless how voters vote, or how I might want them to vote, my honor and integrity will remain intact and I will be ethical and honest in every aspect of my campaign."

"How could Americans believe Hilary Clinton's "endorsement" of Barack Obama in 2008 after months and months of her brutal political and personal attacks? Same goes for Newt Gingrich now showing the proverbial love towards Mitt Romney after tearing him to shreds in the media for more than a year. How can these political leaders express vile hatred towards each on a Monday and then after losing a political race a day later, stare into the eyes of the American voter and profess great admiration for the other candidate? These political lies are not without consequence as they contribute to rampant voter apathy and an electorate that has lost almost all faith and trust towards government and elected officials."

"I like and respect Angus King today in June. It's my belief that I will continue to like and respect him the day after the election on November 7th, win or lose. Why not be honest now?" concluded Woods.

NOTICE: US SENATE CANDIDATE STEVE WOODS WILL BE ATTENDING THE "POSITIVE POLITICS" RALLY AT THE MAINE STATE PIER IN PORTLAND, THURSDAY, JUNE 14TH, FROM 1:00-2:30PM IN SUPPORT OF GREATER CIVIL DISCOURSE IN POLITICS. CANDIDATE WOODS WILL BE AVAILABLE TO DISCUSS HIS ENDORSEMENT OF ANGUS KING.

Steve Woods is currently the Chairman of the Yarmouth Town Council and President and CEO of TideSmart Global (www.TideSmart.com). Woods built an industry-leading group of six companies, all headquartered on an 6-acre eco-friendly campus in Falmouth, Maine. Continued growth has created numerous jobs for hard working Mainers. Woods recently brought his experience as a former NBA and MLB player agent to the NBA D-League's Maine Red Claws, becoming a part owner in 2011. In addition, Woods is a partner/investor in the Forefront Development at Thompson's Point in Portland.

Together with his wife Katie and their three children, Woods lives in Yarmouth where he has served town government in a number of leadership roles. Woods also serves on the Board of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Southern Maine.

Is this the crackpot former Maine GOP director Christie McNally signed on with?

PS: "Crackpot" is a perfectly good Athenian description of someone who, by virtue of their political instability, should be exiled for 10 years. Not to be confused with that other marvelous Athenian term, "idiot", which means "one who takes no share in public matters".

I love this:
But regardless how voters vote, or how I might want them to vote, my honor and integrity will remain intact and I will be ethical and honest in every aspect of my campaign

Isn't that the same speech most contestants on Survivor give?

Amazing Kreskin endorses Maine Senate candidate

By John Richardson jrichardson@mainetoday.com
State House Bureau

The Amazing Kreskin, left, and Steve Woods, an independent candidate campaigning to be Maine's next U.S. senator, are show here in an image from Kreskin's website.

The Amazing Kreskin, the famous mentalist, has endorsed a different independent candidate hoping to become Maine’s next U.S. Senator.

Kreskin is backing Steve Woods, the Yarmouth Town Council chairman...one of four independent candidates who will appear on the Nov. 6 ballot.

“... as a U.S. citizen, I fervently and with much conviction endorse and support Steve Woods to be an Independent member of the United States Senate,” Kreskin said on his website.

Okay - this is different.

Naran,
I suspect you are thinking.."This man is nuts..Yesterday he endorsed King now this". Just take a look at Steve's long marketing/ PR background and check out at what he has accomplished professionally. Steve is a serious business person who is President of an International Marketing/Promotional frim.
This is going to be an interesting campaign to watch..

King made serious hash of Maine's budgets, spending down the $1B surplus he inherited, and leaving office with a $1.5B deficit.

Anyone endorsing Angus King for anything other than anonymity won't get a vote from me. No way, no how.

As the liberal press even admits, the "spin" about King's massive state spending and deficits is the truth.

When even liberal news people say "no thanks" to King, you know there's truth to the history of his excessive spending and bad management of the state's economy.

Fellow independent Senate candidate Steve Woods issues challenge to Angus King
By Matthew Stone, BDN Staff
Posted June 14, 2012, at 6:11 p.m.

While he says he shares a “core ideology” with King, Woods said there’s a lot that sets the two men apart. “Our approach to leadership, our approach to government, our approach to serving people is markedly different,” he said.

Steve finally updated his site with policy postions, not much that I agree with.
This article is interesting http://tinyurl.com/892wfuu , in a nut shell he is a Democrat that is willing to sink $1.3mm of his own money into this race.
IMHO, this benefits Charlie immensely

U.S. Senate Candidate Steve Woods Offers Free Health Screenings to Mainers

Press Event :
Wednesday, June 27th,
11:00 am, at Steve Woods for US Senate Headquarters
Woods to Unveil Screenings program and discuss Supreme Court Decision.

This past March the U.S. Supreme Court held its longest oral arguments in 45 years. At issue: The future of the 2010 Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (ACA), frequently referred to as Obamacare. It is expected that the United States Supreme Court will issues their historic ruling in the next few days (hours?) and Mainers should be thinking about this critical issue in regard to who is elected as the next U.S. Senator from Maine.

U.S. Senate Candidate Steve Woods said, "the Supreme Court decision will not mark the end of the healthcare reform process, but instead the beginning of a critical phase that the new U.S. Senator from Maine will play an important role in defining.” The healthcare ruling promises to be one of the court’s most significant decisions in decades, determining the fate of Obama’s signature domestic achievement. The law would extend insurance to at least 30 million people and overhaul an industry that makes up close to 20% of our economy. The impact of this ruling, regardless of the Supreme Court decision(s) will be monumental – for the United States – and for everyone in Maine.

U.S. Senate Candidate Steve Woods supports the ACA and believes that healthcare reform should be one of our country’s highest priorities. As the owner and CEO of one of the leading health/wellness companies in the country, Promerica Health (www.PromericaHealth.com), Woods may be the most experienced and knowledgeable senate candidate when Mainers consider issues relating to preventative healthcare outreach and patient engagement. “I am proud of the work that we do at Promerica Health,” said Woods, “over the last few years we have engaged with patients from coast to coast and executed hundreds of thousands of health screenings.”

“I am particularly concerned for our citizens in Maine in regard to the Supreme Court decision where we have the oldest population in the country with many people directly impacted by current economic conditions and their own serious health issues. Mainers deserve a strong voice in D.C on this issue – and the November 6th election will select that voice,” added Woods.

Woods is the only U.S. Senate Candidate that;

-Owns multiple small businesses and provides extensive health benefits to his employees and knows personally the burden that healthcare costs mean to businesses and employees in Maine. Over the last few years Woods has paid hundreds of thousands of dollars in healthcare expenses and he understands the needs of employers and employees.

-Has a daughter (21-years-old) that is qualified for healthcare coverage under his plan thanks to ACA – and otherwise would face the reality of no healthcare coverage because of the exorbitant cost – or another tremendous expense burden for a young person starting out in life.

-Is the owner/CEO of a health/wellness company based in Maine – Promerica Health – a nationally recognized best-in-class service provider.

As the owner and CEO of Promerica Health, Steve Woods will be driving one of the Promerica Health Screening vehicles around the state of Maine in early July giving free health screenings to Maine residents. Promerica Health will be announcing events in; Saco, Portland, Augusta, Bangor and other locations.

THE MEDIA IS INVITED TO ATTEND A MEDIA EVENT ON WEDNESDAY, JUNE 27TH, 11:00AM, AT STEVE WOODS CAMPAIGN HEADQUARTERS, 380 US RT1, FALMOUTH, ME, TO HEAR DETAILS IN REGARDS THE “HEALTH ACROSS MAINE” TOUR, TALK TO CANDIDATE WOODS ABOUT HIS VIEWS ON THE SUPREME COURT DECISION, AND TOUR THE HEALTH SCREENING VEHICLE THAT WILL BE VISITING MAINERS ACROSS THE STATE.

From the LTTE, above . .

"By the Press Herald's editorial positioning, it is my opinion that the paper is predetermining and effectively suggesting to readers -- and many other media outlets that look to the newspaper for their own content -- that some candidates are "top shelf" brands (Angus=Coke, Charlie Summers=Pepsi, Cynthia Dill=Dr Pepper) while others (Steve Woods=Shasta Club Soda) represent lesser or less deserving brands."

And that would make AID what? Kool Aid? There's a lot to like about Mr. Woods. This hypocracy invalidates most of it.

Completing his joke of a campaign which turned out to be just an ego trip, during last night's debate aired live on WGAN, Steve officially withdrew from the race and endorsed Angus King (again). Not like anyone thought he was in it for real, all he did in the debates was attack Summers and go on and on with the "I'm richer than you are" shtick.

Steve Woods's contribution to this U.S. Senate campaign was to give Angus King two mouths with which to beat on Charlie Summers and Cynthia Dill.

Mike I think you are wrong in one aspect. It was not an ego trip for him but a marketing trip. At every debate/forum he was part of, on or off TV, he mentioned at least two of his companies.
