Swing and a Miss: ME Left Judges GOP by Leftist Standards
- Login to post comments
Whenever an elected Democrat, a left-wing activist, or an old media Democrat ally paints GOP motives or reasons for acting or not acting on an issue -- the Governor's line-item veto is a case in point -- remember this: they are judging Republicans by how Democrats think and behave. It is stunning how often GOP analyzing Democrats, activists, the press miss the mark while patting themselves on their collective backs for their accuracy.
Wrong is brilliant?
Gtreat opening post; now where are the details.
This is like a book with a cover and no story.
Calvin - So sorry to hear about your loss of self-motivation. Here's one example from today's Portland Press Herald. Here's one more example in the line-item thread which includes several examples.
Spending battle puts state bonding at risk
Projects to fix roads, expand colleges and more may not be funded – and related jobs lost – if LePage doesn't get his DHHS cuts
By STEVE MISTLER State House Bureau
"I think the governor is using the bond package as leverage over Republicans," said Rep. Mike Carey, D-Lewiston. "He's shown before that he'll pressure Republicans to do things that they otherwise wouldn't want to do."

OK, fair enough, but doesn't the right judge D's by the standards of the right?
You seem to have pointed out that what people see depends upon where they stand.
I think we knew that.
... but doesn't the right judge D's by the standards of the right?
Indeed it does. The difference is, the standards of the right include a healthy respect for individuals. The standards of the left include only a respect for groups - especially for groups that are dependable Democrat voters.
Sorry I missed it. (well, sorta) Why would anyone think a good conservative would waste good money to buy a PPH ?
Yesterday at Pajamas Media, there was an article called "The Asymmetry of Ideology", which discusses this very theme. It quotes a study by University of Virginia psychology professor Jonathan Haidt where he had self-described liberals, moderates and conservatives answer questions as themselves, and then as they thought the opposite party would answer them. The results:
"...in a survey of 2,000 Americans, Haidt found that self-described liberals, especially those who called themselves “very liberal,” were worse at predicting the moral judgments of moderates and conservatives than moderates and conservatives were at predicting the moral judgments of liberals. Liberals don’t understand conservative values. And they can’t recognize this failing, because they’re so convinced of their rationality, open-mindedness and enlightenment."
Are you as shocked as I am by this finding [/irony]?

Imagine that?
A democrat thinking like a democrat!
Brilliant!!!
