Police say there were no injuries or damage caused by a chemical bomb that went off in a parking lot near the Islamic Society of Portland.

The bomb went off in the lot between the Islamic Society and Back Bay Grill around 8:00 PM Tuesday night.

One wonders if this might be part of the new, worst-terrorist-threat- ever, that the White House started promoting late yesterday, and is in the headlines on all the news places.

I expect a new massive federal raid on some trailer-park-wannabe-commandos any day now to shore up the Dems lagging support at the polls. Just like Oklahoma City did then, now they need a really beg shew, as Ed Sullivan would say!

BTW, I can't figure out how this happened as I thought possession of bombs was banned in Portland. After all gun bans are supposed to stop crime aren't they?

a 13 year old from the Society was experimenting and was responsible for the bomb. Another bomb was also found undetinated.

Aw, isn't that cute, a little muslim boy preparing to be a muslim man... they blow up so fast!

I believe a legal secretary writes copy for the WCSH web site... undetonated...

My guess is that it was a infoil and bleach "bomb". You use a 2 liter soda bottle. Lotsa noise. No fragments. No heat or flame. Like popping a balloon on steroids.

Because it is not an 'explosive' as defined, it is not a firework, and doesn't implicate most of those statutes. It MIGHT be disorderly conduct. It could even be harassment, criminal threatening or terrorizing, with a lot more facts. Might be reckless conduct. Not a huge deal -- if this "chemical bomb" is like those some of our neighborhood kids have set off.

My assumptions are based on the description as a "chemical bomb", and the paucity of charges.

Someone commenting on the article noticed an interesting point in the last paragraph of the article.
It mentions "teenagers" (plural), yet in the body of the article it speaks only of the "13 year old".
Curious to see if the press/media will expand its reporting on this incident.

Or a "right wing nut-job" as they like to call us who dare to disagree with "the one".

Yesterday's WaPo: Al-Qaeda and its allies are likely to attempt small-scale, less sophisticated terrorist attacks in the United States, senior Obama administration officials said Wednesday, noting that it's extremely difficult to detect such threats in advance.

This must be the beginning...

I like that idea. I'd be proud to wear one too.

I actually am coming to see the term "teabagger" with some fondness. Thinking of the fact that we make them angry enough to call us that, actually gives me quite a bit of pleasure these days.
