TV Promos Abortion as the Top Election Issue

I've mentioned on these boards before that I'm not much of a TV watcher. I have Netflix hooked up to a Wii. But, otherwise, my family doesn't have cable TV or real-time streaming broadcasts.
However, I do keep up with the news through probably a dozen or two sources to try to get 'the big picture'. It's pretty obvious that we're in "election season mode" and pretty much what the "issues" are.
Now, having said that, I was at the gym tonight, on a treadmill (which is rare), and I'm watching the news (I think NBC), and if I didn't know any better, I'd think that "abortion" is the number one issue in this election.
I get that this Aker (sp?) dude showed some dumbassery, and it's just the distraction Dems are looking for, but, man, how blatantly obvious can the media be running with this making such an effort to link some dumbass with GOP and making this election about abortion rather than the economy?
I know millions of people *only* get their news from this source (or similar). It's no wonder so many are blind to reality.
