Today the church bulletin included an insert from the US Catholic bishops urging parishoners to contact their congressional delegation and lobby them to pass both health care and global-warming (anti-carbon) legislation.

Was that in the bulletin of a protestant church, intended to show the parishioners how lucky they are?

Or was it in the bulletin of a Catholic church?

Kidding. Just kidding.

A few years ago, Farmington attorney (and judge of probate) Richard Morton wrote a letter to the editor of the Sun Journal about his dissatisfaction with his church's trend into politics. If memory serves, the money quote was -

"I don't attend church to learn how to vote."

Are such things legal, given the tax-exempt status of churches?

Not for profit laws allow for issue advocacy, but not direct support of a political candidate.

Quite evident from the recent defeat of homosexual "marriage."
