You've heard this shocking "fact" before -- on TV and radio, in newspapers, on the Internet and from the highest politicians in the land: 90 percent of the weapons used to commit crimes in Mexico come from the United States.
There's just one problem with the 90 percent "statistic" and it's a big one:
It's just not true.
Inflated numbers used to push the gun bands in the US. Think about it, why would they want US guns at top price when they can get an AK-47 from the global marketplace at little costs?

MEXICO CITY — A woman was arrested guarding an arsenal that included an anti-aircraft machine gun — the first weapon of its kind seized in Mexico, police said Tuesday.
Cruz said the confiscated .50-caliber, anti-aircraft machine gun can fire 800 rounds per minute and is capable of penetrating armor from more than 5,000 feet. Police on a routine patrol Monday found the gun fitted atop an SUV at a house in northern Sonora state.
Gee, Do you think this came from the US???????
Look at the photo seen in the story. It's not American.

The truth is finally starting to trickle out from alternative media sources, so now hopefully the more mainstream media outlets are going to have to give a more truthful account or risk losing even more credibility.
It's kind of amusing in a twisted way, to read the quote from Tom Diaz, the father of the "assault weapon" deception. He's essentially saying: yeah we lied, but ignore that and hurry up and ban some guns before too many people figure out the truth.
