There's likely to be a lot of gum flappin' over this one, campers. Remember: the morons who planted the li'l white flags have the right to protest, regardless of how vile their approach or short-sighted their beliefs.
Wow, is that article biased much?
Makes me sick.

What action do you want the city to take now?

Mr. Bussiness man:
The actions of YOUR mayor reflect upon YOU! It is YOUR government. It is YOUR policy. It is YOUR dis-respect of the veterans of this country. CLEAN UP THE PARK ! This is NOT the place for trashy political anti-American display.
Until YOU take action to deal with YOUR mayor, with YOUR city council, my only option is to have us all do business elsewhere. In the name of free speach and fairness, must we picket YOUR business too?

Waterville, the place NOT TO BE.
Don't be a dink!
Businesses have nothing to do with this debacle. So you want to hurt the town's economy for a buncha bearded morons and the short sighted actions of the local PD?
Thanks a lot.

Culled from Tom O's post (link) above:

Wayne Elkins, the VFW commander who led the protesters and was among those detained, said he had no problem with the peace group, as long as it stays out of the cemetery. "They desecrated our veterans' grounds. If they want to protest, let them protest. We don't mind. But to desecrate hallowed ground is wrong," he said.

How can it be said any better than that? This is exactly the problem people are having with this. They can chant and hold hands in any public place they wish but when they start playing their media grabbing games on our hallowed ground, grounds that really mean something to people with any depth at all, they have crossed the line.

I wonder in the name of "fairness" if the mayor is going to grant a permit to have a similar party in one of the other cemeteries in Waterville. There is a huge one off Grove street. Heck, why not a porn demonstration at the public library or a NAMBLA convention at one of Watervilles public schools? Fair is fair, right? <-------Does anyone read the sarcasm?

I think the leadership really screwed the pooch this time. They seem to have a history of buckling to fringe groups anyway. Wasn't it just a month ago the Mayer signed a "No Nukes in Waterville" treaty from some anti-nuke fringe organization, and is considering signing a "It is cruel to leash your dog statement" from some animal rights fringe group? How about we remove the letters PC from our vocabulary and reinstall the phrase common sense.

I am quite pleased to see so many people angry about this. Maybe there is still hope Bud, maybe there is still hope.

From the AP article:

Quote:
"Obviously, I don't want to fight them for the flags," said Bill Lord, a Vietnam veteran. "Really, I think that the VFW and Bridges for Peace and Justice have a lot in common. I believe in peacefully working things out."

I will compose a list of things they have in common

1. Both groups members are homo sapiens (pending DNA analysis)
2. ahhh.........Sorry, that's about it.

'That town' had nothing to do with it. It was the volunteer parade committee, many of whom do not even live in Winslow.
I know quite a few of them, I got a supportive letter into the Morning Sentinel on their behalf.
Most are businessmen!
You're a closet leftie, if you are seriously promoting this tactic.

Fortunately, I think they only have one or two lawyers on that side of the river so it will be tough for people in this area needing representation to boycott all the lawyers in town. :D

By the way, my office is just down the street from the park. I could see the park if there were not some buildings in the way. But I was safely out of town before the fireworks started.

First off I want to thank everyone for wonderful insults many posted.

That background qualifies you to ask a lot of questions. Mostly along the lines of 'you want fries with that?'

OH...a Socialist.

Seeing as I am a Licensed Social Worker; have a bachelors degree in Behavioral Science; am an Eagle Scout; am a registered Republican; have worked as a short order cook, potato picker, mowing lawns, pizza cook; and have been gainfully employed since the age of 15, I am surprised by your hateful posts, which are stereotypical in nature and do nothing but take away from the thread. Now, Charlotte would say I am part of a protected class (being a christian, heterosexual white male), and would this raise to a level of hate speech (just kidding!) Perhaps I can file a complaint to the human rights commission???

That said, I am offended by the other social workers behavior which gives all social workers a bad reputation. I support our veterans, our military and our president. I find the actions of these idiot protestors distasteful, and reprehensible. They are not worthy of a response from our esteemed vets. Their right to protest is protected by these vets. They are sad excuses for Americans.

So, Are we going to see a small parade today of ,say 4 or 5 social workers picketing cityhall for their bad taste in choice of proper protest location sites?

I've sent my e-mails to cityhall ( about as effective as an eyedropper on a forestfire.)

I'll search the yellow pages today for places to shop in Winslow.

What does this have to do with your original post of...

You must have convieniently ignored my post of
