What’s Going On In The North Woods?

In August 2016, during the week celebrating the National Park Service’s 100th anniversary, former President Barack Obama designated the Katahdin Woods and Waters National Monument, an 87,500-acre parcel encompassing the Penobscot River’s East Branch and a portion of Maine’s North Woods. The designation came despite emphatic opposition from neighboring towns and state officials.<snip>
On May 10, the BDN published an article titled “Former critics sign letter asking to preserve Maine monument.” There’s just one problem – nobody actually signed the letter.

The rest is here:

Today is the last day for

Today is the last day for public comments on President Trump's review of national monuments. I would ask all to read the linked article above, go to https://www.regulations.gov/, and enter DOI-2017-0002-0001 in the search field. You will see "Review of Certain National Monuments Established Since 1996; Notice of Opportunity for Public Comment" as a result and may comment via the button on the right, or click to open the document, which lists all of the monuments under review, and click on the comment button from there.

One of my problems with this, other than the loss of local control, if that it did not consider local input, but rather gave lip service to them. The current reporting on this is also incomplete, as I had to struggle to find where to comment after hearing the news about this being the last day to comment. It was rigged from the start, by those who would be our new "royals" and make decisions for us, including Roxanne Quimby and Angus King. Help stem the slow slide back to the "King's forests" by commenting in support of removing almost 88,000 acres of Maine land from national monument status.

The land now belongs to the

The land now belongs to the US government.
The US government will not sign a deed with covenants.
It could be given back to her, or sold to the highest bidder.
Trump's choice.

Ultimately, it's her land to

Ultimately, it's her land to do with as she wishes; however, in my opinion it is not in the best interest of anything short of national defense to have the Feds involved. Local decision making is always best; we are hopefully returning to that as we dismantle socialism, I mean globalism, at least as far as the US has been dragged into it thus far.

It's no longer her land. It

It's no longer her land. It belongs to the federal government. If it were to be sold the money would go to the Treasury Dept. It's highly unlikely to happen. And even more unlikely that it would be given to the state of Maine.

But the issue would be in the courts for a while, don't forget.

There is not one single acre

There is not one single acre of paper mill owned forest in Maine today. When Angus King and the environmental industry drove them out of Maine, the companies left behind an economic scorched earth, just as defeated armies destroy the infrastructure of the land they are driven from. In the case of Katahdin Woods and Waters, there are numerous conditions, covenants and easements that contaminate title to the land in perpetuity. It is a lawyer's delight and organizations like the Environmental Grant-maker's Association and the Conservation Law Foundation ensure that it be so. There are T-shirts in the north country with a logo very similar to the Katahdin Woods and Waters logo. The T-shirts say, "Kathadin Hoods and Looters". People who wear them nod to each other. They know what was done to us and who did it.

Lucas St. Clair enters race

Lucas St. Clair enters race for Maine’s 2nd Congressional District

"The son of conservationist Roxanne Quimby has become the face of the Katahdin Woods and Waters National Monument and is the sixth Democrat to enter the district primary."

http://www.centralmaine.com/2017/10/02/lucas-st-clair-enters-race-for-ma...

"St. Clair currently lives in Portland but has purchased a home in Hampden, where he intends to live, Farmer said."

If the video is any indication of the kind of campaign we'll be subjected to, get ready for the fuzzy, warm....
