What does one do when one party controls all the Maine press

I understand Mr. Frary has been let go from that towering example of Maine Journalism, the Kennebec Journal.

It seems he was foolish enough to believe his position as token conservative on the staff allwed him to write not only conservative stuff, but to note the failings of the Paper's political party, the Democrats....fool.

This is Maine. Almost all the media is controlled by the Democrats and those democrats do not take herasy kindly.

How Dare anyone notice that the Governor's signature issues are mere Potemkin villages of illusion and lies. Tax relief through LD1...yeah sure. Health care cost cuts through Dirigo, too silly to even consider.

What is also too silly to consider is the idea that any of our democrat papers will ever do the investigative work necessary to actually report the scams, blunders, and frauds that are this Governor's programs.

Nope, never going to happen...so how does one get the truth out in a world where any lie from the left is printable and any truth from the right is suppressed?

Edited in extreme embarrassment as I seem to have invented a new paper, the Kennebunk Journal, and failed to note the error.....sigh.....

JIMV --

Talk radio, the internet, email, public meetings, starting your own newspaper. Those are a few general ideas.

Not all the press, certainly not CNIM, or the Christian Civic League or, dare I say, even AMG's. Not not all the press, only the ones that, humm, kinda having a hard time finding a word a preacher can use to describe the likes of the nytimes, ppherald, biddeford journal and that used to be fairy honest paper, now rag in Lewiston.

Talk radio is preaching to the choir and is devoted to political junkies, the internet only reaches a few tens of thousands in the state and again, those folk are already interested, meetings if held are almost always ignored by the media that would give them voice.

No, it is a real case of David v Goliath. The dominant party controls the dominant press. One call and a story is spiked. Editirial boards routinely ignore stories they do not like, refuse to investigate major screw ups, if they are done by their guys, and will treat press reports from the democrat establishment as real news. Perhaps...

"The Governor passed gas and it was as ambrosia"

Maybe, just maybe, in another 5 years, sites like this will have a broad impact not just on those who are informed, but with the normal folk. Look how far AMG has come. Perhaps the democrat papers will simply go out of business as they pander to folk who are not used to paying for anything and ignore the 30% of the population that pays the bills in Maine.

Very discouraging today. We have very few writers of merit with anything like a circulation and we have lost another to partisan pandering to the powers that be.

"The First Amendment"

"In the First Amendment, the Founding Fathers gave the free press the protection it must have to fulfill its essential role in our democracy. The press was to serve the governed, not the governors. The Government's power to censor the press was abolished so that the press would remain forever free to censure the Government. The press was protected so that it could bare the secrets of government and inform the people. Only a free and unrestrained press can effectively expose deception in government. And paramount among the responsibilities of a free press is the duty to prevent any part of the government from deceiving the people and sending them off to distant lands to die of foreign fevers and foreign shot and shell"

...Justice Black ( NYT v. US. 403 US 713 )

Anything in that quote about a bought and paid for press spiking thuthful material at the request of a governor? We are not speaking of national security here, but incumbent security.
