Whitney Houston Dead at 48

Singer Whitney Houston dies at 48
Whitney Houston, who ruled as pop music's queen until her majestic voice and regal image were ravaged by drug use, erratic behavior and a tumultuous marriage to singer Bobby Brown, has died. She was 48.

Houston's publicist, Kristen Foster, said Saturday that the singer had died, but the cause and the location of her death were unknown.

News of Houston's death came on the eve of music's biggest night — the Grammy Awards.

Sad news to read. She was a fantastic singer with tremendous talent, fortunes, and fame, but even with all that going for her, happiness was lost along the way. The autopsy will most likely show drugs killed her body, but it was her mind that failed her.

It is sad to watch one

It is sad to watch one bequeathed with such god-given talent, throw it all away in a fit of self-destruction.

She is fitting testimony to the old adage that money and fame cannot buy happiness.

Happiness has to be found within oneself. It can not be found in a pile of money, a bottle of booze or a hit of cocaine.

My best memories of her will always be of her and Kevin Costner in "The Bodyguard".

I wish I could say I have

I wish I could say I have sympathy for her and how her life degenerated into what is became but I can't. She did all of this to herself. It is self-inflicted. She decided to live a life with drugs; She decided to hook up with the sleazy, drugged out crowd; She decided to abuse booze; She decided to ruin her voice; She took the way of degradation of body and soul. Note the pronoun...She made the call.

She was a beautiful women who had a great voice. She threw it away.

Hers was an amazing talent,

Hers was an amazing talent, and I think it's sad she went so young, and in such a tragic manner. Yes, she made poor decisions. But I am still sad for her family, her friends, and for those who cared about her.

May she rest in peace.

All of the above is so

All of the above is so true!
She had an exceptional talent that to most is probably lost in todays music industry. Her talent was her voice and that is even more exceptional given that her voice was the show ,she didn't need production numbers dancers and all the other things, things that are included by many performances of late.

I thought it was nice and

I thought it was nice and significant that the host off Grammy's started show w/ a prayer for her. As people offer their thoughts etc. there's a common theme that none addresses.
That is the attainment of great fame w/ talent , accompanied by a group of followers, hanger ons, assistants that enable the path they follow. Everyone of these cases has a group of leeches attached to it!

I understand the feelings

I understand the feelings about how sad her death is but this is a great teaching moment with the opportunity to illustrate to how drugs and booze will ruin you, your life, your family and will kill you. Of course, this same lesson was taught by Joplin, Jackson, Winehouse, ....on and on and on...

The stars at the Grammy's kept their collective mouths shut about what really happened and missed the chance to bring the matter to the fore.

I posted it as was related to the thread topic and may of been of interest to other posters interest, like Elvis Presley.

One must retain your sense of humor and it is surely very frightening to be called out by someone who is anonymous!
I will say I am sorry if I prodded you , however, your post serves no purpose and is actually offensive in it's own right IMHO !

There you go again,

There you go again, attempting to stir up a mob mentality on a poster, again, insinuating i posted the photo out of a unique sense of personal humor. As i said, like my other posts i post from a newsworthy/interest point of view to the topic, attempting not to be subjective but informative.

There are moderators on AMG, they have edited my posts before. If they feel it is offensive, they usually act quickly and decisively to correct posts. And i never oppugn thier reasons.

There is no such thing as anonymous on the Internet.

I don't have a problem with the photo. There have been funerary photos of many notable people, taken in their caskets. Even religious figures have been photographed in death. Some are displayed in perpetuity, such as saints.

I don't see the Houston photo as offensive, particularly as the family allowed the entire funeral to be streamed live.

Let me settle this . I

Let me settle this .
I apologize for offending you!
My comment as to humor was suggesting that you take my post as humorous.
Which obviously you seem unable to do .
Once again I apologize.
No attempt at mob anything here only mob part here is usually or has frequently been opposite of me but you would not know that due to your time here.
I am very much aware of what the moderators here do. Many times I agree with them and disagree with them.
Like wise if they deem it necessary to moderate one of my post they certainly can. I take it ,Narans' post ,that she did not find it offensive is a post like any other for or against but not a moderator action.
I disagree with her on that.

By the way here is such a thing as anonymous here on AMG,consequently I would not ask for your name and address as then I might out you which is a no no here. I respect that and your choice to be so.
If you desire to publish that information feel free.

Once again I apologize again for the perceived offensive.
If that isn't enough then that's on you .

On the above and my feelings as to appropriateness of it,a point that I heard this am is correct, someone probably sold this picture to the paper, that to me creates a difference between a family decision to have a public service etc..

Careful, ODF....

people who read the National Enquirer and consider it as a "news/public interest" source may be especially troubled (and/or offended) to learn that Elvis is not secretly alive and running the world from his secret lair, buried far below the Kremlin....especially those people who may have anger management issues...

The King had to go through a cooling off period too. It takes at least a month before famous people finish this period and resurface in some obscure place.
