Who was behind the illegal robo-calls?

RoboGate: The Breathtaking Scope of a Criminal Act
Breitbert

These were the robo-calls made in 12 congressional districts, trying to tie the GOP rep or candidate to Rush Limbaugh, in a negative way, in case you wondered.

Coincidence? All were districts the Democrat Cong. Campaign Committee's list of competitive districts.

People familiar with what it takes to make such calls say it probably cost upwards of $500,000.
And it was illegal.
There are two critical things that make these calls illegal; 1. there was no valid 'call-back' number associated with the robocalls and, 2. the robocalls did not disclose who paid for them.

So the question for investigators, if there were any investigators, is, who has the kind of resources and know-how that it takes to pull this off?
There are very few political organizations who could afford to do that.

Hmmm...

When I see a Washington, D.C.

When I see a Washington, D.C. number on my caller ID, I never answer the phone. And they never leave a message, either. Works for me - although some robo calls came from N.H. during the 2010 election.

I disagree that any political

I disagree that any political call should be "illegal", no matter how offensive. I do NOT want the government in the business of deciding what can be said about the government, or candidates for same.

I hear ya, tjc, and if there

I hear ya, tjc, and if there have to be rules - I'd prefer no monetary limits but transparency about who's paying for what.
Otherwise we could have foreign interests pulling a Soros on our elections.
