More States Jump on Tax-Amnesty Bandwagon
By ARDEN DALE
This year, 12 states had amnesties, up from the annual average of two or three. Another 10 or 15 are likely to follow suit in 2010.
Joseph R. Crosby, chief operating officer and senior director of policy at the Council on State Taxation, describes the activity as "a wave that is sweeping the country."
"If your state hasn't already had an amnesty program, it's probably going to have one soon," he says.

I just resolved a past balance I had at about $.20 on the dollar. Had to send a check by months end. A free tank of oil basically!

Congrats, Charlie! Good to hear a "success" story from a small businessperson in Maine.
lol
Maine is running out it's "penalty amnesty" program, they will rebate 90% of any penalties on past due accounts. I've seen them do it automatically on balances due, even if the taxpayer doesn't request it.
They will keep rebating penalties until the funds for the program are used up, which will probably br December or January according to DOR estimates.

I thought Maine already had several tax amnesty programs in place... seems as if I recall reading about them in the recent past. Sales tax, income tax, etc.
