Here in Fayetteville, NC, a permit is required to have a yard sale. It costs $10.00.

It occurs to me that people holding yard sales are probably among the least able to pay a $10.00 fee to the government.

And then it occurred to me that with all the mills closing and the other economic disasters, Maine should have a huge number of yard sales coming up this summer.

And then it occured to me that the Governor probably doesn't know about this form of larceny the state could utilize.

Perhaps they could also collect sales tax and file tax forms to submit the $$ to the state and then subject themselves to potential audits.

We have way, way too much government intruding in our lives.

Kennebunk has a sign ordinance, and if you have a yard sale and post a sign, you're supposed to pay a $10 sign permit fee.

Even the IRS doesn't make one declare income from an occasional yard sale... but the town wants their piece of the action, regardless.

What a scam...what if a kid wants to have one...Man, isn't there anything the government doesn't get a piece. Blah.
