Maine was in a heat wave. Temperatures had lingered for several days at the 90 degree level or higher.

Eliot Cutler, quasi-independent candidate for Governor, had sought to escape the heat as any Mainer who had spent a good portion of his life working to help the environment did. Cutler sat sipping his imported Chinese lychee wine admiring its golden color and sweet flavor. He leaned back into his custom-made leather chair, gazed out at the churning waters of the Atlantic Ocean from his shore front Cape Elizabeth home, and let the marvels of central air conditioning revitalize him.

"As President Obama’s polls dip, as Congress is widely disdained, and as the economy slumps, suddenly George Bush is missed. Why so? Let me list ten likely reasons."

It Isn't Just Lost Jobs—It's the Lost Jobs Machine

[I]t has been...four decades since America's economy has been the...roaring jobs machine...average Americans...would like to see.

[T]he norm has become unemployment rates in the 5%-to-7% range.

A new study suggests that at least one in seven home kitchens would flunk the kind of health inspection commonly administered to restaurants.
The small study done in Los Angeles County found that less than two-thirds of home kitchens would get an A or B if put through the rigors of a restaurant inspection. At least 14 percent would fail.
